Tree City USA

For the past 18 years, the City of Cashmere has been awarded the designation of Tree City USA. This distinction is awarded to cities that show an ongoing commitment to planting and caring for the trees in the city.

In 2000, the City implemented a tree partnership program designed to purchase and plant selected trees on private property in the city. After certain requirements were met, homeowners received a 12’ tree. This program is designed to increase property values, improve air quality, protect city streets and buildings from summer heat and reduce air conditioning expense, buffer wind, provide wildlife habitat and improve the appearance of the city.

Each Arbor Day the Mayor urges all citizens of Cashmere to support efforts to protect our trees and woodlands and to support our city's urban forestry program, and to plant trees “to gladden the hearts and promote the well-being of present and future generations”.

Cashmere also has a walking arboretum tour that can be enjoyed by both young and old. A brochure and map of selected trees planted in the city is available at City Hall.
